Our Founder

Our founder, John “Johnny” Torkin, is now a senior at Hackley School. As a sophmore, Johnny conceived and began the development of the CommConnex platform to address a problem he encountered as a freshman: how to efficiently find a volunteer opportunity that fit within his academic schedule and was accessible.

After struggling to find the “right-fit”, Johnny decided to create a social media platform to help other students who may be struggling with a similar issue, and so began the journey to design and implement Community Connex.

Along the way, Johnny applied for and was awarded a grant from the Russ Hogg Endowment for creative expression, which provides funding for application-based grants to Hackley School's middle and upper school students to further their creative expression and innovation endeavors.

What was once a mere idea to address a personal problem, has now become a functioning and integrated platform that provides high school students with a personalized experience.

Giving back to the community has never been easier and more rewarding.
